- Guanidine hydrochloride is effective in denaturing and inactivating various enzymes and proteins.
- In a 6 M guanidine hydrochloride solution, the “secondary structure” of proteins, maintained by intermolecular non-covalent interactions, is disrupted, causing changes in the tertiary structure.
- It is commonly used in nucleic acid extraction as a cleaning solution (> 3M), binding solution (4-6M) for protein removal, and lysate for genomic DNA and total RNA-Extraktion.
- Unlike guanidine isothiocyanate, guanidine hydrochloride exhibits low absorbance in A260, A280, and A230, resulting in an ideal ratio of nucleic acid product A260/A230.
